Simple Biblical  Answers to basic Bible questions

 1. What does the Bible have to say about sin in every human's life?

   Answer: Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
                Ecclesiastes 7:20 - "For there is not a just man upon earth that doeth good
                                           and sinneth not."

 2. What is inside each one of us that lets us know when we are sinning?

   Answer: Our conscience that has been telling us what we are doing wrong from the time
   we were children.  Romans 2:15 - "Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts
   their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else
   excusing one another."

 3. How can we as humans know for sure whether God exists or not?

   Answer: Romans 1:19-20 tells us that "God has put the knowledge of Himself in EVERY
   man so that none have an excuse." Psalm 19:1-3 makes it abundantly clear that the heavens
   declare the glory of God and the firmament shows his handiwork – and it is universally understood.
   For the Christian it is the certainty that comes when the person comes to know God personally at
   the moment of salvation and is strengthened by many answered prayers throughout his life.

 4. How can we exercise the faith necessary for salvation

   Answer: Romans 12:3 states; "God has given to EVERY man the measure of faith necessary
   to salvation

 5. What provision has been made to secure my salvation and yours?

   Answer: John 3:16 shows what great lengths God went to for us that His ONLY begotten Son
   died in our place!

 6. How can we know the Bible is God's Word?

   Answer: This is the simplest of all!  If you knew any earthly author personally you would know
   his book and would not question its authorship. When we trust God for salvation we have a
   personal relationship with Him, we pray to Him with confidence and He answers us by fulfilling
   His promises contained in the Bible.

The Anvil - God's Word

Last eve I passed beside a blacksmith's door
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime:
Then looking in, I saw upon the floor
Old hammers, worn with beating years of time.

"How many anvils have you had," said I,
"To wear and batter all these hammers so?"
"Just one," said he, and then, with twinkling eye,
"The anvil wears the hammers out, you know."

And so, thought I, the anvil of God's word,
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon;
Yet though the noise of falling blows was heard,
The anvil is unharmed . . . the hammer's gone.

CONGRESS DECLARES THE BIBLE
“THE WORD OF GOD”

[S.J.Res. 165]

Joint Resolution authorizing and requesting the President
to proclaim 1983 as the “Year of the Bible.”

Public Law 97-280
97th Congress
96 Stat. 1211
October 4, 1982

Whereas the Bible, the Word of God, has made a unique contribution in shaping the United States as a distinctive and blessed nation and people;
Whereas deeply held religious convictions springing from the Holy Scriptures led to the early settlement of our Nation;
Whereas Biblical teachings inspired concepts of civil government that are contained in our Declaration of Independence and the constitution of the United States;
Whereas many of our great national leaders—among them Presidents Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, and Wilson—paid tribute to the surpassing influence of the Bible in our country's development, as the words of President Jackson that the Bible is “the rock on which our Republic rests”;
Whereas the history of our Nation clearly illustrates the value of voluntarily applying the teachings of the Scriptures in the lives of individuals, families, and societies;
Whereas this Nation now faces great challenges that will test this Nation as it has never been tested before; and
Whereas that renewing our knowledge of and faith in God through Holy Scripture can strengthen us as a nation and a people:

Now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the President is authorized and requested to designate 1983 as a national “Year of the Bible” in recognition of both the formative influence the Bible has been for our Nation, and our national need to study and apply the teachings of the Holy Scriptures.

Approved October 4, 1982.
