ATTRIBUTES OF GOD
"The Heavens declare
the glory of God and
the firmament shows
his handiwork; Day
unto day utters speech
and night unto night
shows knowledge and
there is no speech or
language where their
voice is not heard."
Eternity - This is the concept that God
never had a beginning and he cannot
possibly have an ending. Further this
excludes him from being affected by
time as mankind and all creation is....
Psalms 90:2 - "Before the mountains
were brought forth, or ever thou hast
formed the earth and the world, even
from everlasting to everlasting thou
art God."
Perfection - Consider that if God were to
be less than perfect he would be equally
able to sin like any mortal man. Perfect
means without flaw of any kind making it
impossible for God to do anything wrong.
Deuteronomy 32:4 - " He is the rock, his
work is perfect, for all his ways are
judgment; a God of truth and without
iniquity, just and right is he."Only a perfect
being can do perfect work.
Omnipresence - God is everywhere, and
fills the universe with his presence. He
is always available to those who seek to
find him and inescapable to those who
would rather not find him.
Psalms 139:7-8 - "Whither shall I go from
thy spirit, or whither shall I flee from thy
presence? If I ascend unto heaven thou
art there: if I make my bed in hell behold
thou art there."
Omnipotence - God owns all the power in
the universe, and never looks outside of
himself for power. He gives power to his
creation without losing any of it and can
take it back at any time he pleases.
Psalms 62:11 - "God has spoken once;
twice have I heard this; that power
belongeth unto God." Rational thought
demands that if God is perfect then only
God can own and dispense power........
SOMETHING ABOUT GOD
Omniscience - God knows everything past,
present and future instantly and without a
single ounce of effort. He knows nothing
better than he knows anything else and is
never surprised at anything.
Isaiah 40:13 - "Who hath directed the spirit
of the Lord or being his counsellor hath
taught him? 40:28 - There is no searching
of his understanding." Perfect knowledge
is far beyond human ability to grasp.
Holiness - God's holiness is something we
can only grasp at but never comprehend.
Since we are sinful by nature, the concept
of absolute purity runs contrary to what we
are within. Perfect purity is God's alone!
I Samuel 2:2 - "There is none holy as the
Lord. Exodus 15:11 - Who is like unto thee
O' Lord, glorious in holiness..." This one
attribute on the day of judgment will be
the most frightening for sinners to behold!
THE CHARACTER OF GOD
Love - God's love is called agape love and
it stands for unconditional love. This love
is what caused God to send his only Son to
live among us and die a horrible death in
our place so we could receive his mercy.
John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world
that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not
perish but have everlasting life. Christ
suffered so that we wouldn't have to.....
Mercy - God's mercy is something that we
cannot earn and do not deserve. Mercy is
renewed to us every morning as God does
not reward us according to our words and
actions, but extends his love instead.......
Lamentations 3:22-23 - "It is of the Lord's
mercies that we are not consumed for his
compassions fail not. They are new every
morning; great is thy faithfulness." What
matchless grace God gives to all who ask!
The Heavens Declare the Glory of God - Psalm 19:1-3
Wrath - God's wrath is not like the wrath of
mortal men because his wrath is always a
directed against evil which destroys men.
His wrath is not capricious but always fair.
His offer of mercy to us precedes his wrath.
Romans 1:18 - "For the wrath of God is
revealed from Heaven against all ungod-
liness and unrighteousness of men who
hold the truth in unrighteousness." God's wrath is justly reserved for the unrepentant.
Hate - There are many people both in and
out of the church community who somehow
believe that God is not capable of hatred. A
view such as this is held by those who only
see hatred as men see it in themselves.......
Psalm 5:5 - "The foolish shall not stand in
thy sight; thou hatest all workers of iniquity."
Here David is speaking about people who
refuse to repent of their wickedness and
defy God. See also Proverbs 6:16-19.
