1 Chronicles 16:29 - Worship the Lord
in the beauty of holiness.

C R Lord, was born September 27, 1942 in a little town called Sunbury in Northeastern Pennsylvania during a period in time when doctors still delivered babies in the home. According to his mother it was raining hard that Sunday morning and she was hoping he would come soon so she could finally get some badly needed sleep. When he was born he was given the name Richard Edwin Shaffer and was greeted by his two older siblings Janice and Paul. His father, who was never actually part of the family life, was not there. That was the way of things back then.

That stormy beginning was to be the start of a life filled with storms of all kinds including five years in an orphanage (the second separation from his mother), twelve years of drinking, 6 years in the drug culture, an attempted suicide over a young woman who he had wrapped his life around, a future wife who would also attempt suicide through overdose and had to be confined to a mental institution, and finally being arrested in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on drug possession charges and given a prison sentence reduced from fifteen years to an eighteen day misdemeanor.

The trip to Florida and the ensuing arrest and imprisonment turned out to be a great blessing! In jail there was nothing to do but pace a large cell and talk with prisoners. Frustrated and looking for something else to do, he picked up the only book lying on the metal table in the cell. It was a Gideon's Bible. He began to read it and asked other prisoners questions about it, but none of them could give him any answers. An older man in the prison told him that he didn't know the answers to the questions he asked but he was going to get the answers when he left the prison. Finally, he prayed; "God, if you're real and you can prove it to me I will give you my life."

On February 19, 1974, around ten o'clock during an evening tent service held by what were then known as "Jesus Freaks," God revealed himself to him in such a powerful way that his life would never be the same again! The mouth that used to curse Jesus and God daily and often, learned to praise God instead, the man who thirsted after sex, drugs and alcohol found his satisfaction in the word of God and the God of the word, the person filled with hate for his earthly father learned to love everyone and especially his heavenly Father, the old places of wasting his life were replaced with a strong desire to spread the gospel message everywhere in an effort to help others find this great deliverance from such places and the lifestyle they create, and an old life of sin and shame became a new life of great peace! This then is a testimony in brief of the life of C. R. Lord, Author. Since then God has blessed him with a wonderful wife, Beverly Ann, seven special children who have all come to know the Lord and five beautiful grandchildren and a new grandson who is due January 2014.  Three children have married godly spouses and they are teaching their children about the love and mercy of God shown in Jesus Christ.  More concerning C. R. Lord and his family can be found at

Through the grace and mercy of God C R Lord has been used to minister in drug and alcohol rehab ministries, street evangelism, preaching and teaching, counseling, home Bible studies, coffee house ministry, administrative ministry positions, leading people to Christ, singing, writing, and so much more. He has already lived a life filled with blessings, and his most heartfelt desire is to live out the rest of his life on fire for the Lord! The pen name C R Lord is an answer to a prayer that God would give him a name that would point people to the Lord. His publisher wanted him to use his given name, but he didn't want attention to be drawn to him, and God knew it, so he gave him the name C (see) R (our) Lord in answer to that prayer.

At the time of this writing, January 14, 2014, the author is 71 years young, and on February 19. 2014 the author will be a Christian forty years.  He has worked with Teen Challenge Ministries in Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Kentucky, with His Farm Fellowship in upstate New York, in Youth Challenge International Bible Institute as an Outreach Staff, Teacher and Staff Member, in New Life church in Aberdeen, Maryland and has conducted Bible Studies in his home over the years as well as counseling when needed with people in the community who have come to him for that specific purpose.  He also taught one semester on Systematic Theology as needed at Youth Challenge International Bible Institute and established and ran a program for students to help them pay for their education.  He is a graduate with honors of Teen Challenge Institute as is his lovely wife Beverly who also served nearly ten years with him in most of the places mentioned above.  After all this, he settled in Sunbury with his family and published his first book.  It
is now time for him to begin ministry again since all his children are raised and away from home.  This site is part of that ministry.

All the content of this site is either produced by C R Lord or approved by him and everything is geared to bringing honor, glory and praise the the God he loves and serves.  Contrary to a lot of what is presented online on "Christian sites" this author believes that all the scripture needs to be taught including the things hard to bear.  Therefore this site will contain the love and wrath, the mercy and justice and all the positives and negatives in scripture without apology or compromise!  This means that Heaven and Hell will be presented as the realities they are.  There will be no attempt to minimize anything God has to say and there will be no exaggeration of any scripture either.  The author does not deem himself to be infallible nor does he believe anyone on earth in human form ever has been or ever will be infallible except for Jesus Christ!  Obviously this would include the head of the Roman Catholic church.

The author is fully persuaded that all men are wicked by nature without regard to their level of spiritual understanding or position of authority, and that all men must repent of their sin and place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone for their salvation.  No church, belief system, tenets, doctrines, or religious performance of any nature can bring salvation to anyone.  It is the blood of Jesus Christ shed on Calvary alone that can cleanse the sinner and set him free from all bondage to sin in life, and it is God alone who can enable the believer to live victoriously while they inhabit a body of flesh.  Jesus himself said as much when he made several statements of our need of him.  In John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am THE way, THE truth, and THE life.  NO MAN comes to the Father but through me."  In John 15:5 Jesus says, "For WITHOUT ME you can do nothing."  He is the beginning and the end of life because, as God incarnate, he became a man  and lived, died and resurrected that we might have life through him.  His life and works cry out that he   is divine.  His death for mankind shouts to the world that forgiveness is possible through his blood shed for us.  His resurrection   from the dead assures us that we too will be resurrected from the dead and live forever with him in a place where there will be no   evil permitted and all the things we feared in this life will cease to exist.

Part of this site will be Biblical teaching.  Part of it will be portions of the author's book.  Another part of this site will have Art Prints that will be offered for sale.  These prints are appropriate for about every occasion possible and are created with loving care that all the prints will be a blessing to those who purchase them.  Part of this site will be to direct visitors to other sites where they can find useful information on a variety of subjects concerning scripture and secular beliefs from a Christian viewpoint.  There will be some things that are going to bless people, some that will challenge them, and some that will offend others but not by design.  I would be foolish to think that everyone who comes to this site would be agreeable to any or all of what is presented here, but then I also hope that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable.  We are free moral agents and free to believe whatever we wish as long as we are prepared to deal with the consequences of those beliefs.

Everyone is welcome here.  Everyone is free to challenge what is presented here as far as biblical teaching, preaching or any other content is concerned.  There is a contact page on this site.  While the author welcomes any constructive and respectful feedback on the site, the author will not tolerate abusive and disrespectful comments that are submitted and will report such content as spam and block the person from further access to the site.  Hopefully those who visit here will give me the respect that they would desire themselves.  On this site you will find audio and video messages and testimonies that the author feels are pertinent and hopefully a blessing to those who hear or view them.  The author will be placing his messages on the site as well in both formats as time permits.

From The Heart of a Servant is a refreshingly beautiful collection of thoughtfully inspired poetry.  The work of a master wordsmith that clearly "sees our Lord" and offers Him all the credit.  Overflowing with thought provoking, faith filled word imagery that offers the reader the opportunity to "see our Lord" as well.  Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover!  Truly a book to be enjoyed, inspired by and shared with others.  Thank you for sharing such a precious work.
